Let There Be Light (3), 2023

100 x 100, Acrylics, lacquer and ink on deep edged canvas
These three paintings focus on the very first moments of creation, on the instant when God brought light to heaven and earth. But how on earth could such a thing have looked? It is almost impossible to imagine. So I turned once again to geometry. The simplest form I can paint is the circle. You only need two pieces of information: the center and the length of the radius. In other words, two points. Does it remind you a little of the Big Bang? You are not alone. The next step is to add a third piece of information. This creates a triangle. One more, and it becomes a square or a polygon. Circles, semicircles and triangles are basic elements of nature as well as of human structures. Without them, there would be no architecture, neither in the literal nor in the metaphorical sense. And in the next painting of this series, as you may already suspect, it is all about squares and polygons!
